Innovation for Poultry Welfare and the Circular Economy

As part of its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the agro-industrial sector, the company developed a biotechnological strategy for the comprehensive treatment of poultry litter on production farms, achieving significant improvements in animal welfare, operational efficiency, and environmental impact reduction.
The intervention consists of applying biotechnological formulations designed to dehydrate, sanitize, decontaminate, and stabilize poultry litter—a critical component within the poultry production system. The accumulation of moisture and microbial load in litter often leads to issues such as footpad lesions (pododermatitis), increased pathogen presence, unpleasant odors, and higher operational costs associated with frequent litter replacement.
Through the use of biotechnology-based solutions, the company achieved:
- A significant reduction in moisture levels.
- Decreased microbial load and associated odors.
- Improved sanitary conditions inside poultry houses.
- Reduced incidence of footpad lesions in birds.
- Extended litter lifespan, enabling its reuse in subsequent production cycles.
This intervention not only positively impacts animal health and welfare, but also strengthens producers’ economic efficiency by reducing costs related to constant litter replacement and mitigating sanitary risks.
From a circular economy perspective, the treatment enables the valorization of organic waste within the same production system, preventing its premature disposal and reducing overall waste generation.
